This "moderately incredible "man (as he said to all who asked him
how he was) succumbed to pancreatic cancer after a short but brave fight.
Over the past 40 years Barry worked with virtually every class of drug (produced by chemical synthesis or recombinant means) and their respective routes of administration including, oral, parenteral, inhalation, dermal, buccal, ocular, rectal and vaginal. Studies have been conducted with all species used in preclinical research.
He created STS in 1996 as an independent consulting company supporting the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biomaterial industries. In addition to providing guidance on preclinical regulatory affairs, STS advises venture capital groups and startup companies on the viability of new drug development programs. It specializes in the design and control of safety testing studies (mandated by governments worldwide) that are becoming increasingly costly in terms of time and money.
Former clients have said the following about him:
"He was very respected in the scientific community here for his
rigorous work, depth of knowledge, his ability to 'think outside the
box' and his exceptionally astute way of asking key questions so useful
in the due diligence situations I shared with him."
"A man of great principles and immense competence but who was never
obnoxious. He loved life and gave to his friends. We feel so
fortunate to have met Barry, to have shared both personal and
professional time with him."
"Barry was a very qualified professional who helped a lot in the
pharmaceutical industry; but was also a very humane and kind person."
"A wonderful man so full of energy and one of the worlds great
enthusiasts. He always had straight dealings with people, and one knew
exactly where one stood with him He was always genuine."
"His depth of knowledge and networking in the field of toxicology was
exemplary... His guidance and suggestions were simple, practicable which
were acceptable to regulatory authorities and clients alike... He used to
offer very constructive criticism, whenever he found things not in sync..."
"As a consultant for our company, he was a tremendous asset... I
developed a high regard for him, both personally and professionally."
"I will miss him, his British sense of humour and friendship."
"Lived life to the fullest and wasn't afraid to share his love of life
with others around him - even people he had just met. I have no doubt
that Barry has left his fingerprint in many places and will be fondly
remembered and sadly missed."
"He was unfailingly honest, his work top class and perhaps most
importantly his attitude was always upbeat."
